Local treatment - antiperspirants

This is the first-line treatment for localised hyperhidrosis. Various preparations are available.

One of the most widely used is aluminium cholride in alcohol (Anhydrol Forte, Driclor, ZeaSORB). These preparations need to be applied regularly to dry skin for maximum benefit. A reduction in sweating is noticed within 48 hours, but sweating returns in 48 hours after stopping treatment. The exact mechanism of action is unclear and may involve blocking the duct of the sweat gland.

The main problem with topical antiperspirants is the development of skin irritation and rashes.
